Mississippi River
Eric and I are still trying to find interesting things to do in this city, especially on the weekends... This past Saturday, after playing an intense game of Monopoly, we ate at Applebees and then ventured off into the open road. Not really. In fact, I don't think that we even left the city of Slidell. We drove to the other side of Slidell, the ocean side, where we could see the bridge on I-10 that Eric drives to work every day in New Orleans and took quite a few pictures there. There were TONS of sea shells. My mother sure would have loved it! We also found gross looking bugs that were super fast and half eaten crawfish. Yummy. Actually, we're told that they're quite delicious, however, I have not yet mustered up the courage to try them. Our Ward is having a Crawfish Boil in mid May, so no doubt we'll try them then. (The picture of the crawfish is a whole one - uneaten).
Eric works every morning (M-F) at 6:30, so we get up at about 5:15-5:20. I'm usually the first to get out of bed and I head straight to the kitchen to make him breakfast and pack his lunch. I love it! No really, I do. He takes off just before 6am and more often than not, I head back to bed. It's too early to do anything else, right?! haha I stay awake until he texts me that he's arrived at base and as I lay awake in bed, I get to listen to mother nature. There are so many trees here and a lot of birds. I tell Eric that they sing to me and keep my company after he leaves. There is one bird that I call the "laser bird" because it sounds like a laser. Go figure. Eric spent time on the internet the other day looking up birds to try to find "my" bird. However, he had no such luck. I will upload a recording of it from this morning. Typically, it chirps, or shoots laser beams rather, a little slower..

Our apartment
Alright, so here are a few pictures of our apartment (our bedroom and living room/dining room). I haven't taken a picture of the outside of our complex, but I will soon enough. We were quite surprised at how big the apartment was when we first walked in. Our living room is pretty empty, but we're grateful for the extra space. . no doubt it'll come in handy one day. We don't have a TV, which would otherwise fill the emptiness in the living room, but we decided not to spend money on a TV, yet. We're not big into watching television anyhow, however, we do like to watch movies every now and again. The computer we bought plays DVDs so that covers the movies for us and as far as watching TV shows... that's where the internet comes into play.
Day one of our blog

Hello and welcome to our blog! Eric actually has no idea that I'm starting one or have even considered starting a blog. This, however, was not totally by my own idea, but more that my dear sister continually harrassed me until I had made the first steps towards blogging.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure what to write, so maybe I'll start typing and we'll see what comes out....
For starters, Eric and I were married in March of this year in Oakland, California. One of the best days of my life!! Eric is in the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Petaluma when we met. In February we found out where his next station was and where our new adventure as a married couple was to begin. You're right to assume, judging my the blog title, that we are in New Orleans, Louisiana. Actually, we're about 30 miles outside of New Orleans. So far, we like it here. The weather hasn't been too bad, yet. It's been in the low 80s this week and we're told that the humidity hasn't kicked in yet, but give it a few more weeks and we'll experience the wonderful weather of the South. Hurricane season starts in June and goes until October or so. Thrilling.
Well, that's all that I can think of to write for now.
